Hey Lon, I definitely agree, but especially the first half was meant to hammer home how liberals even today can be completely blind to their racism. It takes a racist person to perpetuate a racism system, and even if you don’t buy into it, the choice to send your kids to a wealthy private with only a couple of minorities is a choice that perpetuates our education system’s inequalities. It might be a choice to guarantee our children having a good education, but what’s wrong with our country when a rich education often looks like attending a middle-upper class, predominantly white school?

Northern cities are also extremely segregated, and it’s difficult to describe how so many decisions we make day in and day out, from what neighborhood we live in to where we send our kids to school perpetuate that hypersegregation and racism. It’s human nature to want to live in a safe neighborhood and send your kids to a good school, but why does that look the way it does in the United States?

Part of why people especially on the left can be blind to how these day to day choices perpetuate racism is that the left believes it has this moral high ground on the race question just because we believe the right things. Ask your average white liberal if they think they’re racist. They’ll probably say no.

Well, I’m racist. I don’t say many racist things (or I don’t think I do), but I lock my car door a couple more times when I live in a high crime area and I live in a pretty bougie part of town. My high school was suburban and predominantly white. These are decisions that perpetuate segregation and racism.
