I learned how to speak English from pre-K peers and teachers when I was 4 -- without exposure to them talking, I would only have been a Chinese speaker at this point! Now, the only reason I still know how to speak Chinese is being exposed to my parents speak! Learning about the language experience approach and other approaches to teaching ELLs now, and digraphs and consonant blends. I feel like a lot of this felt very intuitive to me before I got into education, but now I have to take a test on cloze tests and all the reading stages (pre-reading, emergent, transitional, fluent). This helps a lot, Dawn!
