I may have been on the other side of the aisle a couple years ago, but World Athletics is too committed to condoning them now to stop. I watched the end of the race and Kiplimo was the favorite going in, not Kandie, but Kandie put in crazy surges. I loved watching it. Under the radar, a big reason why runners are breaking records as well is COVID. The shoes help, but not having a busy racing season (with a lot of travel) and COVID really makes record attempts the theme of 2020, since tactics are out the window on a lot of these world class races.
If you’re Cheptegei, running 61s in a 5k is a very risky strategy to win an Olympic or championship 5k, and athletes are training very differently for long distance with COVID too. I think it’s a really exciting time for the running world.
