I try not to embed them. I’d say “According to Dr. Z at the New York Times…” with a hyperlink to the piece linked in. I’ll usually ask writers when I’m editing to do that instead of “read this article for more information” with an embedded link. Maybe I’ve been on Medium too long and have too much of a preference. I don’t find it particularly egregious when a writer links something else for more information but when they put in their own old piece it’s cringey to me.
