John, I absolutely love this article and you know I’m a huge fan. But we disagree here philosophically: I don’t believe there is such a thing as wasting time. The concept comes from our bourgeois hustle culture that urges us to have meaning in every single thing we do and be productive all the time. Even time that we feel is wasted is, in some way, formative and educational to us, however slight. Sure, perhaps our time can be better spent, but even time that seems wasted helps us learn.
