Rachel, I apologize for just responding now, but I’ve been reading on the Spanish flu and now our cities flattened the curve. Cities who did it relaxed social distancing had a resurgence in deaths.
You don’t read much about the Spanish flu and more impoverished communities, and nowadays when I’m running in the hood, it’s clear that the threat seems a lot more distant with a lot of people outside. In Baltimore the violence hasn’t stopped — if anything it has stayed the same. It’s people in these communities that still have to go to work, even a couple weeks later, working for essential businesses.
I wish it could be another way.
