Shaming The Unvaccinated Doesn’t Work. Instead, The Government Must Have Stricter Mandates
It’s on the political system to act on more vaccine systems and passports now
What do you think of when you hear “unvaccinated”?
The image in much of the media, including my own preconceived notions, is a white, Evangelical Trump supporter in Alabama who doesn’t believe Donald Trump lost the election.
I got both my Pfizer shots in February. However, I have met and interacted with several unvaccinated people. To even know they’re unvaccinated means they’re not casual strangers I met on the street — I have some level of a relationship with them. None of them are Trump supporters. Not all of them are white.
I had a parent in my Baltimore City school cuss me out after mentioning vaccinations in February because she believed it gives you facial paralysis. One person was a lower risk and simply wanted to play the “wait and see” approach. Someone else said they didn’t go out much anyway and would get it if their employer required it, but otherwise didn’t see a reason to. I know someone who has a Master’s Degree in biology who wanted to wait for full FDA approval.
Of course, these are not great reasons to not get vaccinated either. I wish I could…
