Shya. I love this article. It wasn’t until I found my Christian faith that I realized I’m just as racist, homophobic, xenophobic, etc. as the average Trump supporter or the next person. Just because your racism is more subtle doesn’t mean it’s not there: that means it’s more dangerous at times. Malcolm X, one of my most respected figures in history, once said this about the white liberal:
“The white liberal differs from the white conservative only in one way: the liberal is more deceitful than the conservative. The liberal is more hypocritical than the conservative. Both want power, but the white liberal is the one who has perfected the art of posing as the Negro’s friend and benefactor; and by winning the friendship, allegiance, and support of the Negro, the white liberal is able to use the Negro as a pawn or tool in this political “football game” that is constantly raging between the white liberals and white conservatives.”
So from this and the Gospel, Romans 3 telling us that none of us are righteous or justified, I have been on a journey to accept my racism and prejudice. Thank you for urging others to do so. I wrote about my journey a little bit here:
