Thanks for this article, Brad. I wish more riders tipped as well and I found it is super tip dependent to drive Uber or Lyft, and expect it to be even more tip dependent on DoorDash or GrubHub. Also, the companies just keep taking more and more $$ out of the app. I don't drive anymore but I recall I got a ride my friend called. He paid $7.70, and I made $3.75. It's even worse now according to most drivers.
I also double apped to make up for any time that I couldn't get rides. While I was busier with Uber, I found the riders with Uber tended to be more rude/less forgiving than Lyft, ironically. I maintained a 5 star rating my whole time with Lyft but on Uber I was suddenly a worse driver -- people started rating me 4 stars! One person even rated me 1 star. What people don't realize is how much those ratings matter and anything that goes below 4.6 means you're up for review, but even one 4 star rating could put you down quite a bit.
