This is a really interesting piece. I work in Title I, almost 100% free and reduced lunch schools. I would say a huge complaint of parents and guardians who want to be more involved in their kids’ education is actually that we don’t give homework. I’ve had parents tell me “my teachers used to assign homework all the time. Why does Johnny never come home with homework?”
Obviously this is not every parent, but I went from not assigning homework at all as a teacher to occasionally assigning it and making it optional. Kids who completed it would get extra credit. I think every parent is different but a lot complain about how the pendulum has swung too far on not assigning homework at all in a lot of districts.
