Why Korean Dramas Are So Emotional And Addicting
You have to know Asian culture to understand why K-dramas are so culturally significant
Contrary to how people view me on the outside, I am a very emotional person. I am a writer, after all. Recently, nothing has tapped into those emotions as much as Korean dramas (K-drama).
I’ve been watching It’s Okay Not to Be Okay and The Extraordinary Attorney Woo, two very popular K-dramas that tackle pretty important issues like trauma and destigmatizing autism spectrum disorder. Nothing has made me almost cry as much as the super sentimental scenes in both. Every scene is an emotional roller coaster where it’s hard to look away.
They’re good and emotional in a way that’s very different from how American dramas are emotional. Korean dramas aren’t like HBO masterpieces like The Wire and The Sopranos. Instead, they can be better at making very strong emotional connections, even if they don’t have the same level of complexity and depth as your average HBO masterpiece.
