Yes! I know the inventors intended for them to be more humane — the guillotine was developed to replace beheadings particularly. However, the problem with making executions more “humane” is they become easier and more expedient to do (French Revolution). Nothing besides an outright ban on the death penalty can truly really be “humane” in my opinion.
