Yes! Omar is very sympathetic. And McNulty is driven to do good acts by his vanity. I was rethinking something on my most recent watchthrough about Avon and Stringer. I’ve always liked Avon a lot more than Stringer because of his honor system and the nobility with which he approaches a dystopian world in that regard. But when you look at the body count, Stringer is responsible for the most emotionally devastating and personal to the viewer deaths, but who knows how many people Avon ordered to their deaths, especially in season 3, when he could have gone another route and done otherwise?
